River Bluff and Dorman emerged from Tuesday's 19th Annual Smith Memorial golf tournament tied for first place. Both teams finished at 317, six strokes ahead of Lexington, forcing a two-team playoff to determine the winner.
The teams remained even after the first hole of the playoff, prompting a second attempt, which Dorman won to claim the win.
River Bluff has never won the Smith Memorial, an event established by River Bluff head coach Roger Smith in memory of his parents, who lost their lives to cancer. Tuesday's finish was the program's best. Once again, the elite teams of Dorman, River Bluff, and Lexington finished at the top, offering a glimpse of what might be coming for the AAAAA Division I state championship.
River Bluff's JV, or second team, finished tied for 12th in the 19-team field.
