As the final stretch towards the AAAAA-Division I State Tournament begins, River Bluff's women's golf team seems to be hitting on all cylinders.
Last Thursday, the Gators took on a couple of perennial powers, Dorman and Lexington, on the eventual state championship course at Carolina Country Club and emerged victorious. River Bluff finished 12 strokes better than the Wildcats and 51 shots ahead of the Cavaliers.
Kelly Huang led the way for the Gators with a 74, and Charli Heaton followed right behind with a 77. Merritt Wham and Emery Jones tied for the fifth spot with 82s, and Grace Shelly came in 8th with an 83.

Five days later, River Bluff took on a much larger field at the HV3 Invitational at the Gaston Country Club. The Gators finished fourth behind Pinecrest High School (Pinehurst, NC), last year's winner, Charlotte Catholic (NC), and Marvin Ridge High School (Waxhaw, NC). Heaton was low scorer for River Bluff with a 78 (T-19th), and Huang finished tied for 21st with a 79. Merritt Wham rounded out the scoring for the Gators with an 81 (T-34th).

Next up for the Gators is a matchup with Chapin and Lexington on Thursday at Timberlake Country Club. This will be a warm-up for the 19th Annual Smith Memorial on Tuesday, October 7th, at the Country Club of Newberry, hosted by River Bluff.
After that, it's the Region 4-AAAAA Qualifying Tournament, the AAAAA-Division I Lower State Tournament, and then the AAAAA-Division I State Championship.
