Hot off her win at the Chapin meet on October 18, in which she recorded the school's second fastest time, River Bluff cross country runner Savannah Davis once again crossed the finish line first - this time at the Lexington County Championships held at Lexington High School on Wednesday.
In her first year running cross country, the Gator senior has implemented a work ethic and attitude that is paying big dividends down the stretch. "Watching Savannah dominate the competition was great to see!" said head coach Cameron Starr after the race. Dominate is an appropriate term, as Davis was the only runner in an impressive field of 73 to finish in under 19 minutes.
Davis had some help in helping River Bluff earn third place out of 11 Lexington County teams. Sophomore Leah Esber finished in 11th, and senior Madelyn Cathey finished in 14th, giving all three runners All-County Honors.
Abby Tinsman (19th), Braelyn Davis (20th), and Hayden Hindman (23rd) also had impressive showings in helping the Gators secure the third-place finish.
Coach Starr was optimistic about the remainder of the championship part of the season based on Wednesday's results. "We had some strong performances and now know exactly what we need to do at next week's Region Championship."
That race is scheduled to be held at Lexington High School again on Wednesday, October 29.
