River Bluff's women's varsity basketball team started its season with two dominating performances in the Impact Sports Showcase at Spartanburg Christian Academy on Friday and Saturday.
In the first contest, River Bluff relied on a stubborn defense that forced 25 turnovers and three blocks to hold the Chapman Panthers to just nine points through the first three quarters and 21 total points for the game. Offensively, River Bluff put up 51 points, led by Campbell Childers' 11. While Childers was the only Gator to score in double figures, all of the River Bluff players scored on the night.
In their second game, River Bluff was led by Evie Godfrey's 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists, which helped the Gators defeat the Broome Centurions 61-34. Four Gators scored in double figures, including Chaelyn Tifre, who had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
After gaining an early advantage in the first quarter, River Bluff opened the offensive floodgates in the second, outscoring Broome 21-6, giving the Gators a 32-12 lead at the half.
River Bluff, now 2-0, will next face Gray Collegiate on Friday, November 28, in the She Got Next Thanksgiving Tournament at Lexington High School. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
