River Bluff got behind early on the road at Lexington for Tuesday's second game of the SCHSL AAAAA-Division I District 4 Softball Playoffs and could never catch up to the Wildcats, falling 12-2 in five innings.

Lexington jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, setting quite a different tone from the last time these two rivals met, which was a back-and-forth extra-innings battle.

Starter Meghan Tucker struggled in the circle for the Gators, giving up six runs on six hits in one-third of an inning of action. Annslee Crumpton came on and pitched four innings in relief, surrendering six runs on five hits and striking out four.

Lexie Jodie led River Bluff at the plate. The senior went two-for-three with a double, a run batted in, and a run scored.

Gator hitting:
  • G. Fryer - 1-for-3, 1 run
  • A. Jodie - 2-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI, double
  • B. Sanders - 1-for-2
  • B. Gillcrese - 1 RBI
  • B. Graham - 1-for-3
  • M. Cromer - 1-for-3

The Gators are now 1-1 in the postseason and will play the loser of the Sumter-Cane Bay game, which happens tomorrow night. If Cane Bay defeats Sumter, River Bluff will host their game with Sumter on Friday, May 8. However, if Sumter upsets Cane Bay, the Gators will travel to Cane Bay on Friday. Every game now becomes a must-win for River Bluff in the double-elimination tournament.
