The River Bluff Gators will square off against the Dorman Cavaliers at Dreher High School at noon this Saturday for the AAAAA-Division I Volleyball State Championship.
The Gators are entering the match on quite a roll after sweeping through the early rounds of the Lower State bracket and knocking off the top-seeded Wando Warriors 3-1 for the Lower State title.
Dorman is the one-seed from the Upper State bracket.
The match on Saturday will be the first meeting between the two programs this season.
River Bluff is playing quite possibly the best volleyball of their season right now. In their win over Wando, the Gators had a high number of kills, led by senior Caroline Tucker with 19, followed closely by sophomore Peyton Capps and freshman Karis Kettering with 18 apiece. Senior Oprah Tchuendem led the defense with 8 total blocks. Capps also had 23 digs, and Alexis Jodie notched 48 assists.
The Gators will need to continue their high level of play to have a chance of defeating an impressive Dorman squad, who come in with a 29-6 record and three straight-set sweeps in the Upper State bracket.
