For Immediate Release
Steve Orr Named Head Coach of River Bluff’s First Men’s Volleyball Program

LEXINGTON, SC – February 27, 2026 – Joining a growing list of South Carolina high schools, River Bluff has created its first ever Men’s Volleyball program and has tagged Steve Orr to take the reins in its inaugural 2026-27 season.

A Background in Volleyball and a Future Built on Character
Coach Orr started playing indoor volleyball in high school in the competitive midwest. During those years, he gained invaluable experience playing and learning alongside the likes of future Olympic gold medalist Lloy Ball and his dad, coach Arnie Ball of IPFW. It has been a part of his life ever since, playing club ball in college during his time at Indiana University, and afterward, in tournaments all over the southeast.

On his past experience with volleyball, Coach Orr said, "Volleyball has been a part of my identity since I was a teenager. I am super excited to initiate Men’s Volleyball here at River Bluff and am eager to get started creating a positive, winning culture and tradition."

Coach Orr went on to talk about his goals and expectations for the new program: “Our team will be built from the onset by coaching to a standard. The standard will be first and foremost about our players' character,  treating both successes and failures in life, and on the court, as equal learning opportunities. Playing to a high performance level should come steadily and quickly if we do things the right way."

"My goal is to guide these student-athletes to learn, grow, and excel, ensuring they understand that being part of this team is a privilege earned through discipline and citizenship," added Coach Orr.

When he began his science teaching career, he served as a coach at Irmo High School. For the past five and a half years, Stephen has been a dedicated member of the River Bluff High School faculty, and is excited about the opportunity to start the boys' volleyball program. He is supported by his amazing wife, Ashley, his 6-year old daughter, and 2-year old son.

For Interested Players
Coach Orr said that the program will be holding a few open gym sessions in March (TBD) for athletes interested in learning fast paced, power indoor volleyball. So, be on the lookout for announcements of those dates soon.
