River Bluff celebrated Senior Night in dominant fashion Friday evening, honoring nine seniors with a commanding 7-0 victory over Irmo.
The Gators wasted no time setting the tone, as sophomore Henry Kuhn opened the scoring in the 8th minute off a cross from senior Alejandro Romero. Kuhn, who now leads the team with five goals on the season, gave River Bluff an early 1-0 advantage.
In the 21st minute, sophomore Harper Vasquez doubled the lead, rising to head home a long throw-in from senior Wade Douroux to make it 2-0.
Vasquez struck again early in the second half. In the 46th minute, a cross from junior Mason Swann found senior Chris Gartung in the box. Gartung’s shot rebounded off the post, and Vasquez was there to finish the play, notching his second goal of the night and extending the lead to 3-0.
Swann added his name to the scoresheet in the 56th minute, finishing a left-footed strike off a through ball from Douroux to make it 4-0. Just two minutes later, the Gators struck again as Vasquez delivered a corner kick that sophomore Charlie Lohr volleyed home for the team’s fifth goal.
In the 65th minute, Gartung found the back of the net off a redirected header from Swann, pushing the lead to 6-0.
The scoring was capped in the 70th minute when junior Thomas Quenneville drew a foul in the box and calmly converted the penalty kick to seal the 7-0 victory.
Beyond the scoring, the night served as a fitting tribute to a senior class that has played a vital role in the program’s success. River Bluff controlled possession throughout, dictated the tempo, and secured a clean sheet in a complete team performance.
The Gators will look to carry this momentum into a key road matchup at Chapin on Tuesday.
