River Bluff wasted little time asserting control Wednesday night, overwhelming Summerville 7-0 in the opening round of the 2026 SCHSL AAAAA Playoffs to advance to the second round against West Ashley.
The Gators set the tone early through relentless pressure and attacking runs down the flanks, eventually breaking through in the 19th minute.
Junior forward Mason Swann sparked the opening sequence with a dangerous run that earned River Bluff a corner kick. Moments later, junior Mason Kleine delivered a service into the box that was headed down by senior Holden Carruthers before junior midfielder Jake Riddle flicked the ball toward goal. In a desperate attempt to keep the ball out of the goal, a Summerville defender intentionally knocked it down with his hand, resulting in a red card and penalty kick.
Riddle calmly converted from the spot in the 20th minute to give River Bluff a 1-0 lead.
Playing down a man from that point forward, Summerville struggled to contain the Gators’ attack.
Less than a minute later, Swann again attacked the right side of the field and delivered a cross to sophomore Harper Vasquez, who blasted a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box to double the lead at 2-0.
River Bluff continued to press throughout the opening half, and in the 38th minute Riddle struck again. Senior Wade Douroux delivered the assist as Riddle finished to push the advantage to 3-0 before halftime.
The Gators carried the momentum into the second half, where Riddle completed his hat trick in spectacular fashion.
In the 52nd minute, Swann played a ball up the sideline to Douroux, who quickly found a cutting Henry Kuhn. Kuhn then delivered the ball back into the box where Riddle smashed a finish into the upper center of the net for a 4-0 lead.
Four minutes later, junior Cody Wigand made a run to the end line and cut the ball back to Kuhn, who redirected it into the lower right corner to make it 5-0.
River Bluff’s seniors continued the scoring surge moments later when Alfredo Carrasco found Douroux for his 10th goal of the season, extending the lead to 6-0 in the 61st minute.
Just one minute later, Carrasco capped the scoring himself.
Swann raced across the field in a one-on-one situation before dropping the ball back to Carrasco, who calmly finished for his first career varsity goal, putting the finishing touches on the Gators’ dominant first-round playoff performance.
With the victory, River Bluff will travel to West Ashley for the second round of the AAAAA playoffs on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
