On a chilly night in The Swamp, the River Bluff Gators delivered a dramatic comeback to defeat West Ashley 2–1 in overtime, improving to 3–1 on the season.

West Ashley opened the scoring early in the second half when the Wildcats’ Hudson Turner finished a ball played into the box in the 46th minute to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.

River Bluff found the equalizer late in regulation. In the 78th minute, Harper Vasquez rose to head home a well-placed free kick from Mason Kleine, tying the match 1–1 and sending the home crowd into a frenzy. For Vasquez it was his second goal of the season.

The Gators carried that momentum into overtime and needed just two minutes to find the winner.

Senior Wade Douroux launched a long throw-in that was craftily headed into the back of the net by fellow senior Alejandro Romero to secure the 2–1 victory for River Bluff.

The Gators return to action Thursday at West Florence, where the JV boys kick off at 5:45 p.m. and varsity follows at 7:15 p.m. 🐊⚽
