There are programs in every high school sport that serve as gauges for teams in those respective sports. A.C. Flora has had a men's lacrosse team that has served that function for opponents for a number of years. Head Coach Mickey Purdy fields an elite program that is perennially in the state championship conversation every year. River Bluff has Flora circled on their schedule as a gauge game - a contest that gives the Gators and Head Coach Chris Register not only a significant test, but measuring tool to determine where they stand.

Coach Register had to like what that early-season measurement produced.

On Monday night, the River Bluff men's lacrosse team came back from a 5-2 halftime deficit against A.C. Flora to win 12-7 on a frigid night in The Swamp. The Gators outscored the Falcons 10-2 in the second half, including an insane eight-goal 4th quarter. Offensive midfielder Kyle Jenkins led the Gators’ in goals with four and added two assists. Jackson Register contributed two goals and three assists. Michael Shields had a dominant night, winning 20 out of 22 total face offs for the Gators, including one that he advanced for a goal.

River Bluff bested A.C. Flora in assists, shots, shots on target, shooting percentage, and possessions per goal.

After the win, Coach register said, "I have the highest respect for Coach Purdy and his program over at Flora. This was a major test and a big win for us." It is only the second time in twelve tries the Gators have emerged victorious over the Falcons.

With this win, the Gators moved to 2-0, and will face Spartanburg on Saturday, February 28th at Dutch Fork High school at 4:00 PM.
