River Bluff and Wando, arguably, the top two AAAAA-Division I lacrosse teams in the Lower State, battled it out in the SCHSL Lower State Semifinals on Friday night in the Swamp, and the visiting Warriors emerged with an 11-7 win over the Gators.
From the outset, it became obvious that two very good lacrosse teams were competing at a high level. Every time River Bluff would surge ahead in the first two quarters, Wando would have an answer. The back-and-forth first half ended with Wando holding onto a slight 6-5 advantage.
The second half, however, belonged to the Warriors, who simply outlasted the Gators and outscored them 5-2.
The match was well-played, like a match one would expect to see for a state title. And it very well might have featured the two best teams in the state for class AAAAA-Division I.
The postseason loss brought an end to an amazing 15-2 season for the Gators, who finished ranked number eight overall and number six in AAAAA in SC by MaxPreps.
