Men's Hoops: Gators Upend Irmo 61-59 in Chomp House Thriller

The River Bluff men's basketball team came back from a first-half deficit to topple the eighth-ranked Irmo Yellow Jackets 61-59 Tuesday night in The Chomp House.

After giving up 25 points to trail by nine in the first quarter, River Bluff slowly mounted a comeback, eventually taking the lead in the third quarter. From that moment, the game was a hard-fought back-and-forth affair. The Gators turned to adept guard play to break Irmo's press and feeding their inside big man, Alex Kirylo, to turn the tide and achieve the win. Kirylo got 18 of his team-leading 19 points in the paint, and most of those came in the second half. Kirylo was one rebound shy of a double-double. Ford Stratton added 16 points in the winning effort.

Irmo had a final, desperate attempt as time expired, but it came up short, sealing the victory for the Gators.

River Bluff returns to action Friday night at home against the Chapin Eagles. Their 7:30 tipoff caps a night of basketball as all five teams will play at home. WACHFox 57 will broadcast the women's and men's varsity games as part of the Stewart Law Offices High School Hoops series.
