When points are hard to come by, yardage often follows suit. Such was the case for River Bluff on Friday night at White Knoll in the first region game of the season for both teams.
Despite running twenty more offensive plays than White Knoll, the Gators managed only 126 total yards—73 yards passing and 53 yards rushing - and, as a result, only three points.
Contrary to River Bluff's struggles, White Knoll gained a hundred more yards in less time and in significantly fewer plays. The yardage appeared to come much more easily to the Timberwolves, as did the points. White Knoll's offensive success stemmed from a balanced attack. Their ground game out-gained their passing by just four yards, 116-112. The Timberwolves' punt team saw the field only three times. In fact, White Knoll was its own worst enemy, committing 110 yards in penalties. Nonetheless, the Timberwolves' numerous mistakes and personal fouls were overshadowed by their success on both sides of the ball and ultimately their 32-point victory.
River Bluff (3-3, 0-1) will host Irmo (6-0, 1-0) on Friday. Irmo is coming off a 35-0 shutout of Lexington.
