Despite holding Southside Christian to just one run on two hits in Thursday night's baseball game at Winthrop University, River Bluff had no answer for the reigning Gatorade Top Baseball Player of the Year in South Carolina, pitcher Carson Boleman, and dropped a tight game to the Sabres 1-0.

The Gators were impressive from the mound. The trio of Ashley Powell (starter - 3 innings pitched), Walker Godwin (2 innings), and Mason Iser (1 inning) combined for two hits and one run - a lone homerun in the second inning.

One run is all Southside Christian needed though, thanks to their ace. Boleman, a virtual lock lock as a first-round pick, had supreme command of his pitches, which often crossed the plate in the mid-nineties. Of his 80 total pitches 61 were strikes, helping the impressive leftie toss a no-hitter. Boleman struck out 18 of the 23 Gator batters he faced.

River Bluff now sets their sites on the postseason, which begins at home on Monday, May 4. Check out the AAAAA=Division I district brackets at SCHSL.org(Opens in a new window).
